Soft Fruit

In addition to the orchard we have 14 varieties of soft fruit which can be picked from June through the summer months, when we spend a lot of time making jam. The jostaberries make particularly good jam.

STRAWBERRIES Akiki Strawberries

• HONEOYE - early season. Lovely flavoured fruit

• PEGASUS - mid season. Fruits are of high quality and excellent flavour

• ALICE- late mid season. The fruits are large, sweet and juicy and evenly sized

RASPBERRIES

Akiki Raspberries

• JULIA-mid season, gives high yields of large fruit which freeze well.

BLACKCURRANTS

Akiki Blackcurrants

BEN CONNAN - early season. This variety has high yields of exceptionally large fruit, which makes easy picking

BEN GAIRN -early season. It is the earliest variety to fruit, with medium sized berries, and an excellent flavour

BEN ALDER- late mid season .A very high yielding variety with medium sized berries

 

REDCURRANTS

Akiki Redcurrants

JONKHEER van TETS - early season.  A popular early redcurrant, with high yields of large berries that have a good flavour.

RED START_ late season.  An upright bush that gives heavy yields of medium sized red berries that hang well for August fruit.

GOOSEBERRIES

Akiki Goosberries

GREENFINCH - mid season.  A compact bush which produces heavy yields of smooth, green fruit with a superb flavour

MARTLET - late season.  It has high yields of smooth-skinned, red dessert fruit of good flavour

JOSTABERRIES

Akiki Jostaberries

A thornless blackcurrant/gooseberry hybrid with a shiny black fruit the size of a small gooseberry.
The fruit makes beautiful jam or jelly.
Very high levels of Vitamin C.
