Food Prices

In the news we’ve been reading about food prices in Europe rising by twice the rate of inflation which is no surprise given how much feed prices have increased in the past months. At the other end of the spectrum was an article in the Daily Mail 03/06/08, about the 2p sausage, thankfully reported under the headline “but what’s in Asda’s bargain banger?” . A sad end to a pigs life, but It did raise the issue of just what we are eating at those prices. While we appreciate buying organic is a choice not everyone can make, it is good to see these questions being raised and consumers priorities challenged. Rising food prices are now a reality and if people are having to pay more than in the past it is understandable that they demand more information about how it is produced and why it costs what it does.
