Organic Eggs

We have three small flocks of 90-100 birds running in the orchard . We chose black rock hens which are bred from Rhode Island Red and Barred Plymouth Rock hens as they are good laying birds. This year we tried a different breed, Silverlink which also lay well giving a good dark brown egg. All the birds love being outdoors & won’t go back into their house until it’s completely dark .

They keep the orchard tidy & the grass down but sometimes get excited when you go to feed them and fly over the fence to meet you. Our kids love chasing them which is just as well as they can be difficult to catch. The kids give them a cuddle then put them back over the fence & the hens seem to like being handled.

The birds are fed a natural diet and the resulting eggs are really special, we can’t eat any others now . They are biodynamically produced and hold the Demeter symbol. You welcome to come and collect your eggs direct from the farm or buy some birds for your own garden just make sure you come in your old wellies.
